The ambassador relayed the queen's message to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The short note reads, "I was saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life during typhoon Xangsane. I send my sincere condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time." Typhoon Milenyo claimed over 100 lives and left hundreds more missing or wounded, destroyed trees, power and phone lines, and billboards. It caused damages totaling over $40 million to infrastructure, agriculture, schools and property. The British embassy said it is closely monitoring the effects of the typhoon, and has advised its nationals to adopt typhoon preparedness measures in future cases.
