India Objects To Comments By US Envoy To Pakistan About Mumbai Blasts
Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer New Delhi, India (AHN) - India voiced its disapproval on Thursday against statements made by US envoy to Pakistan, Ryan C Crocker, who said that New Delhi should not make "public allegations" regarding Islamabad's role in the Mumbai blasts. India refuted, saying that such comments are not expected from a "diplomat from a democratic country." External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna told the Press Trust of India, "We have seen the remarks...One would have expected that coming from a democracy like the U.S, Mr. Crocker would have understood that democratic governments have the primary responsibility to keep their own people fully informed." Earlier, Crocker had recommended that India seek diplomatic discussions directly with Pakistan rather than reverting to public allegations over concerns of Islamabad's part in the Mumbai terror attacks that killed nearly 200. Crocker was specifically referring to the comments made by the police at a press conference detailing the investigation into the July 11 serial train blasts; the Mumbai police said that Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, had supported the attacks. The Ambassador was quoted by Pakistani media on Wednesday: "India should communicate with Pakistan by having direct contact instead of talking about the Mumbai train blasts in the public."
