Cambodia Dismisses Coup Rumor
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Phnom Penh, Cambodia (AHN) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen dismissed coup rumors circulating around the capital on Thursday and said any military adventurism similar to what happened in Thailand, was very unlikely in the kingdom. Speaking in the Pursat Province, he told those predicting a coup, "Please calm down. Don't say such things anymore, otherwise you will be in trouble. He said the people of Cambodia were members of a peace loving community and that they do not believe violence can solve the country's political crisis. "The kingdom would not see any coup," he said. The premier made the statement in response to some radio reports that claimed a coup similar to the one that occurred in Thailand might occur in Cambodia because the two countries share the same political and military systems as well as historical background. Hun Sen has a strong military background and has complete control over the nation's security forces and the police. His ruling Cambodian People's Party enjoys a majority in the government, the National Assembly and the Senate.
