Russian FM Says Kidnapped Israelis Are Alive And Healthy
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told an Israeli delegation to Council of Europe on Wednesday that two Israeli soldiers being held by Lebanon's Hezbollah are alive and in good health. The Israeli delegation included Karnit Goldwasser, whose husband Ehud is one of the captives, along with fellow Israel Defense Forces reservist Eldad Regev. The two were abducted by Hezbollah along Israel's northern border on July 12. According to Ha'aretz, Lavrov said Russia has been actively involved in U.N. efforts to free the two men, but refused to divulge further details of his nation's contacts with the kidnappers. A spokesman for the Goldwasser and Regev families told Ynet that while Lavrov's statement was important, it "is not a sign of life." "Until this time we have not received any sign of life from the kidnapped soldiers in Lebanon," Shmulik Elgrably noted.
