Philippine Flights To Allow More Liquids As Carry-On Luggage
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Manila, Philippines (AHN) - Officials at the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Wednesday they are expanding the number of liquids to be allowed to be brought in carry-on luggage aboard airliners. The list include baby formula, breast milk, juices and prescription medicines. The decision of the MIAA to relax its security measures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport was on offshoot of the relaxation of security measures by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. Initially, the MIAA allowed liquids and gels to brought on board on the condition that these items were bought at the duty-free and retail shops located inside the airport. These shops can be found in the final screening checkpoint, which is already considered a "sterile area." The MIAA said it allowed these items in the hand-carried bags "in response to requests" from passengers who pointed out that some liquids and gel substances are "necessary for their use during flight." Airport chief Alfonso Cusi said, "I am requesting our passengers to cooperate for their own safety and security. These are concrete steps to prevent any possible attempt to bring in explosive substances disguised as regular liquid or gel-like substances by terrorists."
