Iran To Allow Foreigners To Visit Nuclear Facilities
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Tehran, Iran (AHN) - In an apparent bid to convince the world that its nuclear program is indeed peaceful in nature, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued an order on Wednesday allowing foreign tourists to visit the country's nuclear facilities. Esfandyar Rahim Mashaii, head of Iran's Tourism and Culture Heritage Organization said, "Foreign tourists can visit Iranian nuclear sites, after an order from President Ahmadinejad." He said the president gave foreign tourists the permission to visit Iran's nuclear facilities to prove that its intention is peaceful and aimed only at generating electricity and not nuclear bombs. "We are reviewing the related instructions in this regard," he added. There is still no clear definition of a foreign tourist that would be allowed, but the tour could include Iran's first nuclear plant being built in the southern city of Bushehr, the uranium conversion facility near Isfahan, and the uranium enrichment plant in Natanz. Before the order, Tehran only allowed International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors and some media men to enter the nuclear sites. The United States has accused the Islamic Republic of using the nuclear energy program as a cover to develop atomic weapons and pushed U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions on the country.
