Suicide Bomber Blasts Truck Near Iraqi Army Base
Nji Che - All Headline News African Correspondent Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - An Iraqi suicide bomber on Wednesday blew up his truck outside the army base in Western Ramadi, near U.S. military installations. Further information about casualties was not immediately released. Earlier the same day, a succession of bombs struck a shopping district in Baghdad, killing 16 people and injuring 87 others. Elsewhere, five other people and two U.S. soldiers were killed in scattered attacks around the country. Violence has continued to grow in the Iraqi capital despite amid an increase of U.S. troops to calm the city. Since Saturday, the U.S. military has confirmed the death of 17 troops. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government has been working to quell sectarian violence. But the situation has only continued to get worse. The Sunni-led insurgency that broke out after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, has claimed several lives and even sparked fears over civil war in the country.
