Bangladesh Keen To Strengthen Ties With Jamaica
Golam Mustofa Sarowar - All Headline News Staff Reporter Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - President Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed says that Bangladesh is keen to strengthen ties with Jamaica through economic relations and more people-to-people contact. The President made this announcement as the newly appointed High Commissioner of Jamaica, Wayne St. John McCook, presented his credentials while visiting President's residence, Bangabhaban. Welcoming the High Commissioner, based in Beijing, President Dr. Iajudin congratulated him on his new obligation in Bangladesh and hoped that he would be able to make significant contributions towards taking the relations between the two countries to a new height. "Bangladesh and Jamaica enjoy close bonds of friendship and understanding based on their shared values of democracy, respect for human rights and commitment to world peace," he said. The President mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in poverty alleviation, empowerment of women and non-formal education. He also mentioned that Bangladesh has already achieved two components of the MDGs -- gender parity in primary education and access to safe drinking water. The High Commissioner was also given a guard of honor by the President's Guard Regiment.
