Taliban Ambush Kills Two Canadian Soldiers
Mort Karman - All Headline News Staff Writer Kandahar, Afghanistan (AHN)- The death toll of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan continued to rise as two members of the Royal Canadian Regiment based at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa (Ontario), received fatal wounds and five others non life threatening injuries in an ambush in the Panjwai region. Dead are Corporal Robert Thomas Lames Mitchell and Sergeant Craig Paul Gillam. Just last week Private Josh Kluke was killed in the same area from a Taliban mine explosion. There were three serious attacks by Taliban forces Tuesday. Just after noon, Tuesday, members of the Royal Canadian Regiment Charles Company came under fire as they patrolled along the Arghandab Road bed. The troops returned fire and an airplane bombed the area. Earlier in the day a suicide bomber on a motorcycle rammed into a convoy of Canadian supply vehicles. That attack injured three Afghan civilians, including an 11 year old boy. The five soldiers injured in the fatal attack were taken to a Hospital at Kandahar Airfield, the NATO main base. One soldier suffered broken bones, the other four were treated for less serious injuries. Just two weeks ago Kandahar's governor, Asadullah Khalid, announced that Canadian soldiers had routed the Taliban from the area.from.
