Nigerian Militants Release Abducted Oil Workers
Nji Che - All Headline News African Correspondent Lagos, Nigeria (AHN) - Nigerian militants released 25 Nigerian staff members employed by a Shell contractor abducted earlier this week. The workers were captured on Monday during a raid which left 10 soldiers dead in the volatile Niger Delta. A company spokeswoman told reporter at a news conference on Wednesday, "All the contractors have been released." The incident did not impact oil production. Earlier on Tuesday, a group of suspected Nigerian militants invaded a neighborhood of foreign oil workers. The invaders killed two guards and abducted more than five expatriates in the raid. The last few months have seen a surge in militant attacks and pipeline leaks that have cut roughly a quarter of Nigeria's crude oil production. At least 600,000 barrels of crude oil production has been lost as a result of the pipelines sabotage.
