Retired Police Officer Awarded Life Term For Arms Trade

Barisal, Bangladesh (AHN) - A retired police sub-inspector was today sentenced to a life term for illegal arms trading. Barisal is a divisional city of Bangladesh.

The divisional speedy trial tribunal judge handed down the punishment to Noor Mohammad Sikdar alias Nuru Daroga, 62, of Golabunia village in Patuakhali sadar upazila.

According to the prosecution, RAB caught red-handed Nuru Daroga when he was selling a gun at Lemukhali bazar on March 23. Later on his confessional statement one LG, 3 shotguns, 3 pipe guns and 3 pistols, ammunition, materials and equipment for making arms were seized from his home.

A case was filed against him. The verdict in the case was pronounced in a packed courtroom.
