Beirut Showcases War Through Film
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Approximately 500 people crammed into an auditorium on Wednesday to see a collection of short films. The festival, called "Shots of War" showcased some of Beirut's finest independent filmmakers. "I thought it went well and I am glad so many people came to the event. It shows that people do care about what is going on in this country after the war," Beatrice Harb, one of the events organizers said. The films ranged from an analysis of the effect of cluster bombs in towns and villages across southern Lebanon to an Arabic hip-hop video shot over the rubble of Israeli bombings during the 34-day war between Hezbollah and the Jewish state. Each film was a diatribe about the war in some form, helping to reveal a consciousness that still is affecting Lebanese over a month since the United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into place. "It was exciting to see that people were able to make humor through such a tragic time," one of the attendees said after the event.
