South Korea To Develop New Missile System
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Seoul, South Korea (AHN) - South Korea is set develop new surface-to-air missiles over the next five years to update its aging defense system, the government said Wednesday. South Korean officials say the government will be developing new missiles under the code-name M-SAM to replace the medium-high altitude Hawk missile system. According to officials, the new guided missiles are designed to fly as far as 25 miles at an altitude of 9 miles. Defense officials added that a total of sixteen domestic defense firms including Samsung Thales, Hanhwaand Nex1Future as well as six state-run research institutes will participate in the project. The project is expected to cost $500 million USD.
