Israeli Gets Life Sentence For Killing Palestinians
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - An Israeli settler was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences on Wednesday for killing four Palestinian men and wounding a fifth last year. One day before Israel began its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip last August, Asher Weisgan opened fire on Arab employees of a factory he worked at in the West Bank settlement of Shiloh. Shortly after his arrest, Weisgan said he carried out the murderous act in an effort to set off events that would thwart implementation of the Gaza pullout. Weisgan told the court he saw the attack as necessary for the greater good of Israel, which would suffer divine retribution for having surrendered parts of its biblical homeland. In addition to his prison term, Weisgan was ordered to pay compensation to each of the families of his victims in the amount of $50,000. The man Weisgan wounded but failed to kill was awarded $22,000.
