Canadian Airline Officials Ease Up On Liquids, Gels
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Ottawa, Canada (AHN) - Under revised security rules effective Tuesday, travelers using Canadian airports may now bring liquids and gels at airports including cosmetics and toiletries. At a news conference Monday, Transport Canada security operations director Jean Barrette announced that "Passengers will be permitted to bring liquids, gels, and aerosols through security screening at Canadian airports, provided these items are packed in a container with a capacity of 3 ounces or 0.2 pounds or less and that the containers fit comfortably in one clear, closed and resealable plastic with the capacity of no more than one quart." He was quick to add however, that passengers are still banned from carrying onboard unsealed, open or opaque plastic bags of any size. They are also restricted from carrying liquids, gels or aerosols in containers larger than 3 ounces. The new security measures went into effect on Tuesday. The ban on liquids and gels started after British police foiled an alleged terrorist plot to assemble and detonate bombs using liquid explosives on 10 airliners flying to the United States from Britain.
