Poll: Most Palestinians Want To Adopt Hezbollah Tactics
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem (AHN) - Both during and following the summer's Lebanon war, polls showed that most Palestinians backed Hezbollah in its conflict with Israel. Now a new survey reveals that a majority of Palestinians want their own terror groups to follow Hezbollah's example. Conducted jointly by the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace at Jerusalem's Hebrew University and the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, the poll results showed that 65 percent of Palestinians want terrorist organizations in Gaza and the West Bank to shell Israeli population centers. More than three-fourths of respondents said they want to see terrorists abduct more Israelis. A 57 percent majority said they also continue to back suicide bomb attacks. Ironically, the survey also showed that 59 percent of Palestinians support peace talks between their Hamas-led government and Israel. Shedding some light on that seeming inconsistency, 74 percent of those polled said the Palestinians could not rely on terrorism alone, and must use whatever gains violence brings them to reach a favorable political solution to the conflict.
