Rocket Fire From Gaza Continues
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip continued to fire rockets into southern Israel at the weekend, despite a concerted Israeli military effort to stop such attacks. Israeli tanks and ground troops raided areas around the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun early Saturday in order to keep terrorist rocket cells from operating there. Beit Hanoun is situated just several miles from the Israeli town of Sderot, which has suffered thousands of rocket attacks over the past several years. But just hours after the incursion began, Palestinian militants managed to fire a Kassam-class rocket from northern Gaza. It landed in an open area just outside the coastal city of Ashkelon, which lies a few miles north of Gaza. Ashkelon's southern industrial area is home to a major power plant, as well as petrochemical storage facilities. Defense officials warn that a successful strike on these facilities would have catastrophic consequences. In related news, Israeli aircraft flattened the southern Gaza home of a wanted Palestinian arms dealer Friday night. Palestinian police confirmed that the home belonged to a known arms dealer, according to the AP. Israeli army spokesmen said the house was also covering the entrance to a weapons smuggling tunnel that led into Egyptian-controlled Sinai.
