British Coast Guard Calls Off Search For Crew Empty Yacht
Mort Karman - All Headline News Staff Reporter Cornwell,England,(AHN)- A search for missing crew members of a yacht found anchored off the coast of Cornwell with the motor running has been called off. British coastguard crews launched a search after the boat was found Saturday empty and with the engine going off Mullion on the Lizard peninsula. Search and rescue officials fear whoever was onboard may have fallen overboard during the anchoring procedure. Two crew members were believed to be taking the yacht to Wales. Police were trying to contact the boat owner's family. The vessel was bought a week ago in Cornwell. The alarm was raised after a Penlee rescue lifeboat was sent to investigate the craft as it was feared the boat could drag its anchor. "There was quite a big swell and winds blowing high," said a Falmouth costguard spokesman. Winds were clocked at 28 miles per hour in the area. Costguard shore teams from Mullion and nearby Porthleven searched the shoreline while Penlee and Lizard lifeboats carried out the sea search. Two Royal Navy rescue helicopters were also used in the search. The search was called off late Saturday afternoon and the yacht was being towed to Newlyn Harbour for inspection. Authorities do not suspect foul play in the incident.
