Leading Shiite Cleric Calls For Support For The "Resistance"
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - In his weekly sermon, Lebanon's leading Shiite cleric called on government officials to support the resistance. He called on the Lebanese government to preserve national stability and urged politicians to put aside personal disputes for the betterment of the nation. "The government should be keen on preserving Lebanon's security; while officials should maintain its stability by rejecting negative and irresponsible statements," Sayyed Mohamed Hussein Fadlallah said on Friday. "You [government officials] should support the resistance that made Lebanon and the Arab world enter a new phase of history after Israel confessed ... that it had been defeated," the cleric added. He said Israel is still the largest threat to Lebanon's sovereignty and the resistance is the best way of dealing with the Jewish state. He added that the United Nations must do its job in southern Lebanon. "Israel is stealing our water, violating our skies and overstepping the Blue Line without being prevented by the U.N. peacekeepers. We want the U.N. and international forces [in the south] to assume their responsibilities in terms of defying the Israelis," Fadlallah continued.
