Hezbollah Calls For Unity Government
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Hezbollah's Chief Hassan Nasrallah called for the formation of a national unity government at a rally in the southern suburbs of Beirut Friday. He said the current government should step down and allow for the beginning of a government that represents the entire nation following the 34-day war between Hezbollah guerillas and Israel. "We don't want to eliminate the presence of anyone from public life. What we are calling for is a national unity government. This is not a slogan; this is a serious project we will work very hard for," he said. Nasrallah described Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's cabinet as being weak and unable to protect the country from further attacks from Israel. Nasrallah added that the government has not done enough during the current reconstruction period. The Prime Minister wants Hezbollah guerillas to integrate into the Lebanese military, but Hezbollah has thus far refused to comply with Siniora's calls.
