Australia Prepares For Steve Irwin Tribute
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Staff Writer Beerwah, Queensland (AHN) - More than 5,000 mourners headed by Prime Minister John Howard are set to congregate at Irwin's family zoo to pay their last respects to the television conservationist who recently died in a stingray attack. The tribute will be held at the "Crocoseum" arena, where Irwin used to showcase crocodile stunts. Loved ones and dignitaries will speak during the event. "There will be one seat alongside of the family for Steve because he loved the Crocoseum, he built it," said John Stainton, longtime friend, manager and producer of the "Crocodile Hunter" television show. "And his Australia Zoo cap that he always wore watching all the shows with his daughter will be on the seat," Stainton told AFP. The memorial will start at 9:00 am (2300 GMT Tuesday) and will be shown live globally. It is not confirmed whether Irwin's widow Terri, his eight-year-old daughter Bindi or father Bob Irwin would speak at the televised tribute. "Everyone has said they could do something, but I think on the day when it sort of starts and rolls out the family may have a problem with it because there are emotions there that they haven't seen for a while," Stainton said.
