Fidel Feeling Better, Yet Still No Public Appearance
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Havana, Cuba (AHN) - Cuban leader Fidel Castro continues to recover from his intestinal surgery which took him out of the public eye in July. Argentinean politician and journalist Miguel Bonasso tells Cuba's ruling Communist Party newspaper Granma that Fidel is taking short walks around his hospital room. Leaders maintain that the 80-year-old revolutionary doesn't have stomach cancer, and that the whole incident was the result of "too much work." The news comes after Castro missed meeting with foreign leaders at a Havana summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). After meeting Castro in the hospital during the NAM summit, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, says Fidel has regained his appetite and has put on 9kg after losing 18kg following the surgery. According to Granma, whether Castro would return to govern Cuba or settle into the role of strategist remained to be seen, Bonasso wrote. He said it was too difficult a question to put to Castro.
