Hungarian PM Refuses To Resign
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Budapest, Hungary (AHN) - Despite riots in the streets and clashes with police, Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany declares, "I am not ready to resign." Gyurcsany says "the street is not a solution, but instead causes conflict and crisis. Our job is to resolve the conflict and prevent a crisis." Public outcry began after the political leader admitted "we lied throughout the past one and a half or two years... We lied in the morning, we lied in the evening and also at night." Gyurcsany was speaking in a closed-door meeting, yet a tape was made public. Rioters stormed the state-run television station, MTV, yesterday, where police used tear gas and fire hoses to try and quell the mob. An estimated 10,000 people also gathered outside the Parliament to force and end to Gyurcsany's time in office. The Prime Minister, however, explains, "I think that, perhaps, all the details, the important details were not clear for the government, and it was not clear for the public also." "We tried to avoid to implement the necessary steps, not even just in the last one and a half years, but for a very long period of time. I'm extremely committed to fulfill my program. These are difficult adjustments and reforms. I know it's very difficult for the people but this is the only route or direction for Hungary."
