Hezbollah Still Winning Minds In South Lebanon
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - According to Lebanese in the south of the country Hezbollah is taking the lead in reconstructing the nation following the 34-day war between the Shiite group and Israel. Residents in areas badly damaged, argue that Hezbollah is the only domestic organization helping. Tariq, a resident of Bint Jbeil and a professional translator, says that while he is not in full support of Hezbollah, they are the only group actively helping to recreate a broken nation. "I didn't really support them during the war as they helped to let Israel destroy my two homes here," he said via telephone. "What is important now though is that they are providing the means for people like my family and me to get back on our feet and live a life that we thought wasn't going to happen after Israel stopped bombing," the translator, who speaks five languages including Swahili, added. According to reports, Hezbollah has given individuals as much as $12,000 per home that was destroyed. Israel says the money came from Iran and it is an illegal act under the resolution that ended the fighting on August 14.
