Tropical Storm Lane Floods Acapulco Streets
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Mexico City, Mexico (AHN) - Tropical Storm Lane dumped rain on Mexico's western coast, flooding streets in Acapulco before heading toward the Baja California Peninsula. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, and was moving northwest at 10 mph. It was centered about 95 miles southwest of Manzanillo. Wind and rain struck Acapulco, forcing authorities to close the port to small boats. Streets were swamped with up to 16 inches of water, and the beachside Costera Miguel Aleman was drenched. The Acapulco airport experienced some flooding, but service was not halted. Forecasters issued a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch for an area southeast of Puerto Vallarta. They expect the storm to strengthen to a hurricane on Thursday evening or Friday, before making landfall near Cabo San Lucas late Saturday. Forecasters warn that Tropical Storm Lane could leave up to 10 inches of rain, which could result in deadly mudslides.
