Lebanon: No Contact With Israel
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora once again reiterated that Lebanon would have no contact with Israel. Siniora made the comments in the Egyptian capital on Thursday following a meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. "There is no contact and no possibility at all for contact with Israel," the Lebanese Prime Minister said after the meeting. Lebanon had said that they would be the last Arab state to sign a peace treaty with the Jewish state after Israel had bombarded Lebanon for 34 days in July and August. The 34-day war between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah cost over 1,000 Lebanese lives, mostly civilians while over 100 Israelis were killed, mainly soldiers. Lebanon's Prime Minister was in Cairo to meet with Mubarak and discuss ways of creating lasting peace in the region. Egypt has a peace treaty with Israel since 1979. Lebanon has had no contact with the Jewish state since its inception in 1948.
