Lebanese Troops Continue To Deploy South
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Cairo, Egypt (AHN) - Lebanese troops continued to take up positions in the southern portions of the country on Thursday. The deployment is part of the United Nations Security Council resolution that ended the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah one month ago. Three separate units, totaling 350 men, took up positions in the villages of Hula, Markaba, Odaysseh, Qantara, Taybeh, Adshit, Alman and Shumariyah. Each village is in the central area along the border with Israel. An army source told AFP, only two villages along the border have yet to have Lebanese troops in them - Kfarkila and Deir Mimas. According the Resolution 1701, which ended the fighting between Hezbollah and the Jewish state, Lebanese troops are required to secure the southern border with their southern neighbor as Israeli troops withdraw from Lebanese soil. Israel has withdrawn from the eastern portion of the border but remain in the area around Marwahin in the western sector of the border.
