Hezbollah: We Are Still In South Lebanon

Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said in a television interview aired Wednesday that his group remains armed and deployed throughout southern Lebanon, in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Speaking to Qatar-based al-Jazeera, Nasrallah said, "There is no area south of the Litani [River] which is demilitarized. The resistance is there. ...We are along the border. We have indeed left our exposed points, but no one can prevent us from remaining on our lands." Nasrallah urged the Israeli government to stop deceiving its public by claiming the recent Lebanon war had resulted in Hezbollah no longer being able to threaten northern Israel. "I regret the fact that the Israeli leaders are lying to their people," he said, noting that "not one Israeli goal has been realized." Nasrallah reasserted his belief that Hezbollah had won the war, pointing out that Israeli Prime Minsiter Ehud Olmert "said from day one that he planned to destroy Hezbollah and [Defense Minister Amir] Peretz said that the goal was to dissolve Hezbollah completely, but they didn't succeed." He said Israel's only real accomplishments had been "weakening the organization's military capability and damaging the rocket arsenal."
