New EU Airport Security Restricts Liquids In Hand Luggage
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Brussels, Belgium (AHN) - The European Union Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot on Wednesday said the European Commission is imposing new airport security which restrict the amount of liquids allowed in hand luggage for air passengers. He said, "Following the incidents of this summer we have sought to introduce a response proportional to the needs of security. We have decided to restrict the amount of liquid allowed in hand luggage." He said the new security policies will be "finalized in the weeks to come." Airports around the world imposed stricter security measures after British security officers last month said they have thwarted an attempt by suspected terrorist groups to blow up U.S.-bound commercial airlines in mid-flight using liquid explosives smuggled aboard in drinks' or other containers. Under the new EU rules, the allowable maximum container sizes air passengers can bring in their hand luggage are small shampoo and perfume bottles.
