EU Exploratory Mission Meets Ruling Party's Leaders In Bangladesh
Siddique Islam - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - The visiting exploratory mission of the European Union (EU) had a busy day on Tuesday attending series of meetings with the senior leaders of ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), journalists and representatives of NGOs. During the meeting with the ruling BNP at the party central office in the capital, the EU delegation discussed a wide range of issues from the voters' list to security as well as the possibility of a dialog between major parties over the opposition's reforms proposal. After the meeting, leader of the delegation Andreu Bruce told newsmen that they are here to observe the pre-election situation and talk to the political parties and civil society members. "We've started talking to the political parties. We're listening to their views on election. We're also carefully observing the pre-election situation," he added. BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperative Minister of Bangladesh Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said the meeting was fruitful. "They (delegation) have wanted to know about the voter list. We've informed them that the list could be updated till the day before election," he noted. In the afternoon, the delegation met journalists and NGO representatives at the Bangladesh Delegation office of the European Commission at Gulshan in Dhaka. The six-member EU explo |
