Egypt Believes Palestinians Involved In Sinai Terror Cell
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Egypt is currently tracking a large terrorist cell in the Sinai Peninsula believed to be at least partially made up of Palestinian militants from the Gaza Strip, reported Tuesday. According to a report in WorldNetDaily, the cell, which numbers between 12-18 men, is planning to attack the Sharm el-Sheikh resort at the southern tip of the peninsula, a vacation spot popular with Israelis and other foreigners. The Palestinian members of the cell are said to have infiltrated Egypt last month through Gaza's porous southern border. Israeli security officials have warned that a large supply of advanced weapons have been heading into Gaza through the same border. One Egyptian official told WorldNetDaily, "If Palestinians from Gaza succeed in carrying out an attack against Egypt, it will be a turning point in Palestinian terrorism." Both Israel and Egypt suspect Palestinian involvement in past Sinai attacks, such as the 2004 bombing of the Taba Hilton Hotel, in which 34 people, including 11 Israelis, were killed. Of particular concern is Hamas, which is an offshoot of and closely affiliated with Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has long sought to overthrow Egypt's ruling regime.
