Palestinian President Abbas Forged Alliance With Hamas
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Gaza (AHN) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of the moderate Fatah party on Monday confirmed establishing a coalition government with the ruling Hamas party with the aim of easing international sanctions and help its ailing economy. The WAFA news agency reads a statement from Abbas, saying, "The continuous efforts to form a national unity government have ended successfully with the announcement of a political program for this government." "Efforts in the next few days will continue to complete the formation of the national unity government." Both sides have been trying to form a coalition government for several months without success. It is expected the coalition would soften the anti-Israel stance of the Hamas-led government. The report did not provide details of the coalition but said the agreement was based on a proposal that implies the recognition of Israel. The West and Israel have suspended the delivery of hundreds of millions of dollars to the Hamas-led government which won majority of the parliament's seats in the January elections. They demand that Hamas disarm, recognize Israel and accept the existing peace agreements.
