Blair Promises Military Support To Lebanese Forces
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Britain on Monday promised Lebanon that they would provide help in building the military forces in the country. Prime Minister Tony Blair said at a press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora in Beirut, that his government would help Lebanon's armed forces so they would be able to control the entire country. Speaking at the press conference, Blair said that Lebanon's army has a "crucial role in the country and our support in helping make sure that it is the Lebanese armed forces that are in control of all parts of Lebanon," the British Prime Minister said. "We will work with you in terms of training, in terms of equipment, in terms of any help that we can give and, as you know, I am committing further resources to that today," Blair added. The meeting between the two leaders stressed the need to rebuild Lebanon following the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah. Siniora said that solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was still vital to bringing stability to the region.
