Israeli MK Wants Treasonous Arab Lawmakers Expelled

Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Right-wing Israeli parliamentarian Effi Eitam Sunday called for the removal of Arabs from the Israeli political scene, citing what he called their treasonous relationship with the Jewish state. Eitam's remarks, which were broadcast on Israel Radio Monday morning, were made during a memorial service for an Israeli soldiers killed during the recent Lebanon war. They came in response to a visit by Israeli Knesset members to Damascus last week. Balad Party leader Azmi Bishara and two other lawmakers from the faction traveled to Syria last Thursday in a show of solidarity with the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and with Lebanon. While there, the MKs publicly stated that Israel's Arab population does not view Syria as an enemy state, and warned Damascus that Jerusalem is preparing for war with its northern neighbor. Eitam said the trip proved why Israel has "got to remove Israeli Arabs from the political scene. We've allowed a fifth column to grow here - a group of traitors. We can't have a hostile group like this in our political system." Equally incensed, but striking a softer tone, was Interior Minister Roni Bar-On, who urged Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to revoke the passports of the offending lawmakers.
