Pakistan To Help De-Mine Lebanon
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Pakistan has announced that it will be sending a contingent of troops to Lebanon for the exclusive purpose of de-mining areas bombed by Israel. Pakistan's Prime Minster Shaukat Aziz announced Islamabad's decision at a press conference on Saturday. "The decision has been taken in view of the appeals made by our Lebanese friends and keeping in mind the continued threat of explosive devices faced by the people of Lebanon," the Prime Minister said. Aziz was the first head of any government to fly into Beirut following the ceasefire agreement to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah on August 14. He expressed his nation's commitment to help the people of Lebanon recover from the "devastation of the recent conflict." Pakistan had been sending planeloads of relief goods to Lebanon to help with the humanitarian aid work. Two more flights are expected in the coming days, which will buttress the decision to send de-mining troops to Lebanon.
