Another Person Hit By Unexploded Ordnance In Lebanon
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Another person has been wounded by left over ordnance in southern Lebanon. Hussein Ali Ahmed, 70, was working in his field outside his home in the village of Yuhmor when a cluster bomb exploded. Ahmed was rushed to the nearby town of Nabatiyeh where he received medical attention for serious wounds to his head and body. Officials at the hospital said he was in critical condition. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. The United Nations has said that hundreds of unexploded ordnances remain in southern Lebanon following the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah. Since the August 14 UN brokered ceasefire, at least a dozen people have been killed by unexploded cluster bombs. A large number of artillery shells and other bombs are being removed by the newly revamped UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon at present.
