France Speaks Out Against 'War' On Terror
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin on Thursday suggested that the US policy of employing military might against the perpetrators of Islamic terrorism would never bring peace or stability. AFP quoted Villepin as telling his nation's National Assembly that "against terrorism, it is not a war that has to be fought," but rather a concerted effort must be made to solve the crises that "are doing the work of the terrorists for them." Villepin insisted it is the responsibility of France and the rest of Europe to demonstrate that with "constant vigilance and effective cooperation with our partners" in the Middle East, a "clash of civilizations is not an inevitability." He concluded, "It is only we -- French and Europeans -- who bear this wisdom inherited from history. It is only we who bear this hope for a region that many believe condemned to violence and fanaticism."
