Pope Benedict Pays Homage To His Past
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Vatican City (AHN) - Pope Benedict XVI is paying homage to his past during a six-day pilgrimage to southern Germany. The pontiff will stop at his birthplace of Marktl am Inn, before visiting the graves of his sister and parents. He will then attend an open-air Mass in Munich, where he was once archbishop. Benedict said to German TV networks last month, "I want to see again the places where I grew up, the people who touched and shaped my life; I want to thank these people." He said, "I blush when I think of all the preparations that are made for my visit, for everything that people do... My house was freshly painted, a professional school redid the fence." Benedict has said he will not travel extensively during his term as pope. His six-day homecoming is his fourth trip to Germany - his second since becoming pope. The pontiff's last visit to the country was to celebrate the Church's World Youth Day. He said, "I have to say that I've never felt strong enough to plan many long trips... But where such a trip allows me to communicate a message or where, shall I say, it's in response to a sincere request, I'd like to go."
