NDI Delegation Meets Bangladesh Foreign Minister
Siddique Islam - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - A delegation of National Democratic Institute (NDI) met with Foreign Minister of Bangladesh M Morshed Khan on Thursday and sought his ministry's assistance in fulfilling their objectives of supporting peaceful and democratic election process in the country. Welcoming the NDI mission, Bangladesh foreign minister says elections held in Bangladesh since 1991 under caretaker governments were many times credible than elections held in many countries of the region and beyond. The delegation members included former Prime Minister of New Zealand and former Director-General of the World Trade Organizations Mike Moore, former Minister of Women's and Veteran's Affairs in Cambodia Mu Sochua and NDI Bangladesh Resident Director Owen Lippert. Delegation leader Tom Daschle, former Majority and Minority Leader of the US Senate, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Thursday night to join the delegation, the United News of Bangladesh (UNB), a local news agency, reported. The NDI delegation will start formal work from Friday to assess preparations and observe the electoral environment leading to the parliamentary election slated for January 2007.
