Lebanese Wonder What Will Happen To Them During Winter
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Thousands of villagers in south Lebanon are desperate for roofs over their heads before the coming winter. While there is enough food to go around, up to 150,000 people remain displaced. Their homes were destroyed during the recent 34-day bombing campaign by Israel during the war between the Jewish state and Hezbollah guerrillas. Many families are crammed into small rooms in houses that were hit by Israeli shells. One family huddled in the only room spared by attacks. Some homes have no running water and no electricity. With winter on the horizon many families are wondering what they will do when the cold weather arrives. Of the thousands of displaced persons, most spend their nights with family and friends in nearby villages that were not as damaged by the war. Some eat their meals by candlelight and sleep in what remains of their homes. Others sleep in tents provided by aid organizations. The Lebanese government, Arab nations and Hezbollah have all said they will help rebuild the destroyed areas as soon as possible. With winter coming, residents in Lebanon are worried about what will happen to them.
