Pakistan's Musharraf In Afghanistan For Terror Talks
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan arrived Wednesday in the Afghan capital of Kabul to initiate talks aimed at easing tensions between the two countries particularly on the issue on the war against terror. The international community is pressuring Musharraf to enforce stricter policies in the fight against terror organizations that were suspected of enjoying sanctuary in Pakistan which Afghanistan claims is being used as launching points by Taliban militias. The Pakistani president was scheduled to meet with his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai. He is also expected to address cabinet members, parliamentarians and other policy makers on Thursday. Afghanistan has Taliban and Al-Qaeda leaders based in Pakistan, as feeing the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan. A spokesman for Karzai said the talks between the two presidents would be "frank discussions on the war on terror and expanding bilateral cooperation on regional issues." Pakistani foreign office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told AFP, "They will exchange views on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, reconstruction activities in Afghanistan and cooperation in the fight against terrorism."
