Angry Palestinians Storm Parliament Compound To Demand Pay
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Gaza City, Palestine (AHN) - Thousands of Palestinian security forces belonging to president Mahmud Abba's Fatah faction stormed the parliament compound in Gaza City, Palestine and destroyed windows to protest the non-payment of their salaries. The protesters chanted "Aby Mazen! Abu Mazen!, which is Abba's widely used monicker, the armed demonstrators broke into the government compound that houses the parliament building, and destroyed windows and fired shots into the air. They hurled stones at the building then headed toward Abba's residence in the city. Thousands of Palestinian government workers have been on strike since Saturday in protest over the non-payment of their salaries which they have not received in full since March. Western countries have suspended direct aid to the Palestinian government since Islamist Hamas movement gained majority rule in Palestine. The direct aid is a major source of revenue for the country. Hamas, which is considered a terrorist organization by Israel, the European Union and the United States, is being asked to recognize the Jewish state and to renounce violence before direct aid is resumed.
