Hezbollah Will Keep Its Rockets
Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah Tuesday said that UN Security Council Resolution 1701 notwithstanding, his organization would not relinquish its arsenal of surface-to-surface missiles. However, Nasrallah told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Safir that Hezbollah would not use its rockets against Israel in the short term except for defensive purposes. Nasrallah maintains that the recent round of fighting was in fact started by Israel, and that Hezbollah's July 12 assault on the Jewish state was a reactionary operation. Nasrallah went on to say that this summer's war had exposed the Israel Defense Forces as "an example of failure and embarrassment." He said Israel's only success had been to "force me into a bomb shelter." Both the Lebanese government and the UN have publicly stated that their forces on the ground in southern Lebanon would not forcibly disarm Hezbollah.
