EU Exploratory Mission Arrive In Bangladesh On Sept. 11
Siddique Islam - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - A six-member European Union (EU) exploratory mission will arrive In Dhaka on September 11 to gather basic information on the next general elections in Bangladesh. During their 10-day visit, the members of the EU mission will exchange views with the leaders of political parties, the Chief Election Commissioner and other officials, civil society members and senior journalists of the country. The mission would gather information from government authorities, local representatives of NGOs, international agencies and prepare an assessment of the security situation by district and identify appropriate security measures according to different risk scenarios including a cost estimate, diplomatic sources say. According to the sources, the EU would take the decision about sending election observers to Bangladesh on the basis of the report of the exploratory mission. In 2001 elections, EU sent about 85 observers but this time around the number of the election observers might be double.
