New Zealand Sends More Aid To Middle East
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Wellington, New Zealand (AHN) - The government of New Zealand will be sending an additional $930,000 for relief and rehabilitation efforts in Lebanon and Gaza. New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark said Monday, the contribution was made following the donor conferences for Lebanon and Gaza in Stockholm last week. She said the amount would be divided equally to the United Nations Children's Fund for water and sanitation work in south Lebanon, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East towards health care in the occupied Palestinian territories. It means both Lebanon and Palestine would receive $465,000 each from Wellington. She said, "Our funding is a demonstration of New Zealand's commitment to providing humanitarian assistance when and where it is needed most. "New Zealand has a long track-record of working with the United Nations and we support the lead-role U.N. agencies are taking in delivering humanitarian assistance, and in recovery and reconstruction efforts."
