Lebanon Lashes Out At Israeli Blockade
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - An angry Fouad Siniora, Lebanon's Prime Minister, tore at Israel for its air and sea blockade of the country on Saturday. Speaker of parliament said following Siniora's comments, that Arab planes and ships should force their way to the country. "Who assigned Israel to be guardian of the implementation of the resolution?" Siniora asked at a special parliament session. He condemned the blockade as unjust and illegal. Parliament speaker, Nabih Berri said the Lebanese parliament was planning to send letters to Arab nations "to ask and insist that all Arab planes and ships break the blockade without seeking any permission from Israel." Israel has maintained its blockade since the breakout of violence following Hezbollah's kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers. United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has repeatedly called on Israel to lift the blockade and allow Lebanon to begin full reconstruction efforts. Tel Aviv has said it would remove the blockade once Resolution 1701, which ended the 34-day war, was fully implemented.
