Infamous Prison Turned Over To Iraqis
Nicole King - All Headline News Staff Writer Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - Iraqi officials have regained control of the Abu Ghraib prison, which became known for the prison abuse scandal involving U.S. troops. The prison, in western Baghdad, was a torture center under former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Photographs of American soldiers abusing Iraqi detainees there set off controversy in 2003. Several U.S. soldiers were convicted of abusing prisoners after the release of the photos. U.S. forces handed over the prison. Officials say it holds no prisoners or detainees. They added that the future of the facility would be determined by Iraqi officials.
