Hezbollah Still Seen As Heroes Of War With Israel In Lebanon
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Little children still want to grow up and be Hezbollah fighters and fight against Israel. Despite the Lebanese government's overtures that they will compensate families for their losses during the 34-day war with Israel, Hezbollah remains the only group residents in the south of the country see as viable. A Hezbollah official said on Thursday, "When the Lebanese state possesses a real army capable of countering Israeli army attacks and securing our borders, then we will no longer need to be armed." The group has been leading reconstruction efforts in the country since the end of the war. They have offered more than $10,000 to victims who lost their homes in Israeli bombings and have completed a survey of destroyed areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Lebanese believe that Hezbollah is the only group in the country that has not ignored the people's calls for help, which has bolstered Hezbollah despite being perceived as sparking the conflict by abducting two Israeli soldiers on July 12.
