Kidnapped Red Cross Worker Killed In Darfur
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter (AHN) - The International Committee of the Red Cross says one of its aid workers who was kidnapped in Darfur, Sudan was killed. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was abducted two weeks ago. Unidentified armed men seized him while he was involved in a food distribution mission in northern Darfur. The Red Cross statement did not give details about how he died. His body has not yet been recovered. ICRC spokeswoman Jessica Barry tells BBC News, ""The security has been getting worse over the last months." She adds, "But overall, of course, the situation is not good at all and this is really a very bad situation for the civilian population." A number of aid workers in Darfur have died recently. As a result, agencies say working there is getting more difficult. Barry says, "We have been able to keep working, not consistently in all areas, but to be able to take advantage of a lull in these security difficulties to be able to go in and out."
