Cluster Bombs Still Killing Lebanese
Joseph S. Mayton - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - A number of people have been killed by cluster bombs in southern Lebanon since the ceasefire went into place on August 14. The head of the United Nations Mine Action Service in the south of the country, Chris Clark, has confirmed 59 casualties in total. The UN has thus far located over 350 Israeli attack sites in the country where cluster bombs were used. The teams working on the clean up have said that there could be about 2,000 potentially deadly bombs have been destroyed. "I'm not aware of how far that process has gone. But all I can say is that I haven't got that information at the moment," Clark said, when asked whether Israeli has given the UN a list of sites that they targeted with cluster bombs during the 34-day war. The UN and Human Rights Watch are leading a campaign to stop the use of such weapons and aim for a complete ban on such weapons. At least 13 people have been killed since fighting officially ended on August 14.
